Cure Kids Cancer 10th Annual Radiothon has raises $165,000 in first day
ROANOKE (WSLS10) - The ‘Cure Kids Cancer 10th Annual Radiothon' has raised $165,000 within the first day. More than 470 people in the area have pledged money; one of them was a $10,000 donor!
Over the past nine years, local dj's with 94.9 Star County broadcast stories of hope and healing to help raise funds for Carilion Children's Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic.
"The money is used to help make the experience less traumatizing for the children who are in the hospital facing cancer," said LeeAnn Linkenhoker, an event planner with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. "The money also goes to fund uncompensated care so, for children and families who may not be able to afford all of the treatments that they need to receive."
The money also provides gas cards to families traveling. Carilion also hopes to be able to buy a new pediatric ambulance.
The goal is to raise $225,000. The radiothon continues Saturday. If you would like to donate you can call 1-866-781-8811 or go online at www.949starcountry.com.
