89-year-old man dies in fatal crash in Bath County

BATH COUNTY (WSLS 10) – Virginia State Police say an 89-year-old man died in a crash on Sunday afternoon.

Police say the crash was on Route 220 approximately one mile south of Route 607 in Bath County at 1:46 p.m.

Police say 89-year-old Bernard Tabatznik, of Monterey, was driving south on Route 220 when he crossed the center-line and hit a tractor trailer traveling north.

Police say he and died at the scene.

The man driving the tractor-trailer was Steven Grogg, 44, of Brandywine, WV.  Police say he was wearing his seatbelt and was transported by EMS to an area hospital for injuries received in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
