Growing up, Allyson Felix's teammates called her "Chicken Legs" because of her long, skinny legs. Now they will refer to her as the "most decorated U.S. woman in Olympic track and field history."
Felix won the 400m silver medal Monday night after a rain delay in Rio. She now has seven total career Olympic medals, breaking a tie with Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Felix is coached by Joyner-Kersee's husband, Bob.
It was her first individual Olympic 400m medal, although she does have two Olympic 4x400m gold medals.
Shaunae Miller dove across the finish line to complete her lap in 49.44 seconds. Felix finished .07 seconds later. The result tied for the closest finish in an Olympic 400m final.
Jamaica's Shericka Jackson earned the bronze medal.
Americans Natasha Hastings and Phyllis Francis finished fourth and fifth.
Felix made her Olympic debut in 2004 at the age of 18 and claimed a silver medal in the 200m, which she often describes as her favorite event.
Four years later, she earned another 200m silver medal and her first gold medal, in the 4x400m.
Then in London, she won three gold medals, including her first individual Olympic gold medal in the 200m.
Felix is not done yet. She is in the relay pool for the 4x400m, an event she already has two Olympic gold medals in. The 4x400m final will take place Saturday at 9:00 p.m. ET.
