DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Danville's newest grocery store is now open.

On Wednesday morning, the ribbon was cut on the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in the NorDan Shopping Center.

Dozens of people lined up outside ahead of the ribbon cutting.

The store is about 43,000 square feet and has been more than a year in the making.

It replaces the old Piggly Wiggly that used to be in the shopping center.

Julia Ford says she is excited to finally have a grocery store back there.

"It's right on the bus route. It's very convenient. The produce looks very fresh," Ford said as she placed some apples in her shopping cart. "You don't have to go all the way over to Wal-Mart. You don't have to worry about the congestion on Riverside Drive."

The store also presented grants to several local organizations including the Danville Fire and Police Departments and God's Pit Crew.
