Police investigating crash in Halifax County

HALIFAX COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Virginia State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash in Halifax County. The crash occurred Saturday at 3:39 p.m., on Virginia Route 360 at Thompson Store Road. Police said a 2006 Dodge Caravan was traveling west on Route 360 when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a stop sign then struck a utility pole splitting the pole in half.

Authorities said the driver, Melissa D. Rhodes, 28, of Vernon Hill, Va., was transported to Halifax Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt. The passenger, Julian A. Suttle, 9, of Vernon Hill, Va., was flown to Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C., for treatment of life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt. Rhodes was charged with DUI. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
