ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - On Thursday and Friday, women in Roanoke can get free mammogram screenings for breast cancer. Women 40 and older who have not had a mammogram in the last year can schedule an appointment with the Belk Gives Mobile Mammography Center.
The long pink and black screening center on wheels is parked outside Belk at the Tanglewood Mall.
During the last two years, the mobile unit has performed more than 7,400 screenings and detected 30 cases of cancer.
"If we have to find something, we want to have to find it very early that way it's just like a little bump in the road, it can be taken care of and you can go on with life," said Beverly Burleson, a mammography technologist. "If it's put off two or three years it is a more difficult or challenge of a fight."
The mobile unit is open Thursday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Please call 1-855-655-BMMC (2662) for more information to schedule an appointment.
