Virginia First Lady in Lynchburg for School Breakfast Challenge
LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe will travel to Lynchburg today for the kick off of the Virginia School Breakfast Challenge.
She will take a tour of the Breakfast in the Classroom program, where all kids get breakfast for free in class instead of having to eat in the cafeteria before school.
McAuliffe will be joined by the Virginia State head football coach and Lynchburg superintendent, among other representatives from the No Kid Hungry Virginia campaign.
One in five kids across the nation don't have access to the healthy breakfast they need to start the day.
In Lynchburg, ten out of 12 elementary school students qualify for free lunch.
The First Lady travels across the Commonwealth to improve childhood nutrition.
