Hike for Hospice to help grieving families

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Good Samaritan Hospice hopes you'll lace-up your shoes Sunday and "Hike for Hospice."

The second annual fundraiser benefits the hospice's bereavement program.

Last year, bereavement coordinators helped more than 700 grieving individuals.

Hike organizers came up with the event idea to make it different from other local fundraisers.

"We have such a beautiful area here," said Mary Renwick, Director of Development. "So many great hiking trails and there are so many 5Ks and other events in the area and we just really wanted to hone in on what special to this community and I really think that's our mountains and our outdoor resources."

The hike starts at 12:30 p.m. at Explore Park.

Participants can choose between an easy and intermediate trail.
