RVSPCA works to change perceptions about black cats with adoption event

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) Denise Hayes from the Roanoke Valley SPCA sits down with our own Patrick McKee to discuss the negative perceptions of black cats and an adoption special.

Meet McNabb! Hayes says he is a typical kitten that loves to play with toys, especially feather toys and have his ears scratched. He is looking for his forever home and his new best friend. What a perfect way to kick off football season than with the perfect couch companion to watch the game!

Hayes says black cats & kittens are often overlooked in the shelter because of negative superstitions and stereotypes. So, to combat this negative stereotype, the RVSPCA is promoting "Adopt Your Own Mini-Panther" this weekend. Of course, it's only a play on words, he is simply a domestic kitten or cat, not real panthers. Hayes says typically they have a high number of black cats in shelters because the stigma unfairly sticks with them.
