UPDATE: Police involved in overnight shooting in Rocky Mount

ROCKY MOUNT (WSLS 10)-- Virginia State Police are investigating a non-fatal shooting that happened at a McDonald's in Rocky Mount on Saturday night.

Just before 11:30 p.m., a Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy and Rocky Mount Police Officer attempted to stop a vehicle in the 900 block of Tanyard Road (Route 40). Officers say the vehicle refused to stop and tried to run away.

The officers used their vehicles to block the suspect, who then began ramming the law enforcement vehicles. During the incident, the officer  from Rocky Mount fired at the suspect.

Investigators say the suspect was able to break his vehicle free and escape the scene. He was stopped by the same officers a short difference. The suspect, who has not been identified, was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. A woman who was in the passenger seat was not hurt.

No officers were hurt in the incident.

At the request of the Rocky Mount Police Department-- the State Police are investigating.
