Envelope containing suspicious substance delivered to Martinsville Commonwealth's Attorney's Office

MARTINSVILLE (WSLS 10) - Martinsville police are investigating after an envelope containing a suspicious substance was received by the Martinsville Commonwealth's Attorney's Office on Thursday morning.

The letter was received at about 11:20 a.m..

The Martinsville Police Department, the Martinsville Fire Department and the Martinsville Sheriff's Office were contacted, the office was sealed and Virginia State Police were notified.

State police collected samples to be analyzed and also investigating this case.

As of Thursday evening, none of the employees are showing any signs or symptoms indicating any exposure to anything potentially harmful.

The Martinsville Commonwealth Attorney's Office, which is located in the Martinsville Municipal Building at 55 West Church Street, will remain closed until the analysis of the substance is complete.

Other areas of the Municipal Building are unaffected.
