Sex assaults on, near VCU campus cause concern for students

RICHMOND (WSLS 10) - Students at Virginia Commonwealth University are expressing concern about a number of sexual assaults on and around campus the last few weeks.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/2d8DXTO ) that VCU police fielded reports about three alleged sexual assaults the first week of classes in late August.

Those three incidents occurred around the school's Monroe Park campus.

Since then, two more recent reports occurred on campus. In one case, police say a man grabbed a woman's buttocks after held a door open for him at the student commons. Another alleged assault occurred in a campus housing facility.

A VCU spokesman says campus police have sent mass emails to students to alert them to the incidents.
