Professionals learn more about working with children with austism

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - Trained professionals are getting some extra tips on how to work with students with autism.

It was part of the Virginia Tech's Center for Autism Research's Pivotal Response Treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorder.

About 40 people, ranging from teachers to psychologists listened to guest speaker Alex Boglio with the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center.

She spoke about how there are different techniques to help motivate children with autism.

"It feels absolutely wonderful for us to disseminate evidence-based research on practices with people with autism," Angela Scarpa, Director of VTCAR said.

Organizers said while a date has not been set for next year's conference, they are hoping to have another guest speaker for next year's event.
