Hopefest to raise scholarship money for Botetourt County firefighter's daughters

BOTETOURT COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Months after a Botetourt County firefighter was injured responding to record breaking flooding, the community is rallying to support his family.

Eagle Rock Assistant Fire Chief Alan Wright was pulled underwater during a swift water rescue during late June's flooding.

On Saturday, Fincastle Baptist Church and the Alleghany County community will come together to raise money for a scholarship for Wright's two teenage daughters.

The event is called Hopefest.

"We've been amazed and overwhelmed with the amount of calls and donations we've received in setting up this fund for firefighter Wright's children and we're just happy to be the kind of go between here at Fincastle Baptist," explained Pastor Kevin Cummings.

If you're interested in attending Hopefest at Mallow Mall in Covington, it will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Fincastle Baptist Church will also hand out coats, gloves, hats, boots and more to flooding victims in Alleghany and Greenbrier Counties.

You can also donate to the Wright Educational Fund at any Bank of Botetourt.
