BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - The town of Blacksburg moved one step closer to passing a new ordinance that will impact Airbnb and other short-term rental users.
During Tuesday's work session, town council addressed several points that it could not agree on during previous meetings.
Tuesday's consensus was to allow hosts to have guests 90 days out of the year, but the homeowner can only be gone for 30 of those days. This is to prevent people from buying property primarily for Airbnb use, rather than residential use.
Council also decided to require users to be 18 years of age and older. There was talk about making the cutoff at 21 years old.
The ordinance will be on the work session agenda one final time later in November for any last-minute changes.
The goal is to schedule a public hearing and a vote on the new ordinance in December.
