Food banks looking for help to get stocked up for the holidays

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - It's the holiday season once again and that means local food banks are looking for help to get stocked up.

God's Storehouse in Danville is one of those.

With Thanksgiving about a week away, the storehouse is asking for things like stuffing, macaroni and cheese, and canned fruit and vegetables.

Once Thanksgiving is over, the storehouse has to turn right around and start stocking up for Christmas.

Volunteers are also needed to help distribute the food to families.

"Last year, the three days before Thanksgiving we served over 1,100 families in those three days," said God's Storehouse's executive director Karen Harris. "The day before we closed right before Christmas, we served over 500 families."

The storehouse is open from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays.

Monetary donations are also welcome.
