ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A Charlottesville construction company has been awarded the contract to build the Amtrak platform in Roanoke.
Faulconer Construction Company is expected to complete the build in fall 2017.
Amtrak service is still on track to start in late 2017 and the project is expected to cost $101 million. That price tag breaks down into three major areas.
First, corridor improvements, which is the work to bring the Norfolk Southern rail lines up to par between Lynchburg and Roanoke to handle the Amtrak service is expected to cost $75.1 million.
Next, construction of the rail platform in Roanoke is expected to cost $10.9 million.
Lastly, the servicing facility that will house and service the Amtrak train when it arrives the night before it leaves is expected to cost $15 million.
