LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - One of the last World War II veterans who participated in a weekly military support rally has died.

The Monument Terrace Troop Rally announced the passing of Earl Washington.

Washington, 95, served in the famed Red Ball Express. The truck convoy, staffed mostly with African-American soldiers, moved supplies to Allied forces inside Europe following D-Day.

Washington walked from his home in Downtown Lynchburg to the rally using his walker every Friday. When he moved from downtown, he'd get rides to the rally.

His funeral will be Saturday in Lynchburg.
