Roanoke City government implements hiring freeze

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A hiring freeze has been put into effect for Roanoke City government. City leaders made the announcement on Tuesday.

Officials from the city's Department of Management and Budget said revenue forecasts are lower than expected.

City leaders decided to put the measure in place to ensure expenditures align with revised revenue expectations said staff members.

In a statement from the Department of Management and Budget, officials said requests to fill vacant positions will be reviewed by the City Manager's Office and a determination made as to those critical to the operations of the organization.

Staff said decisions to fill positions will be done on a case-by-case basis.
