Community sending support to Angelo's Restaurant owner recovering after fatal crash killed wife
VINTON (WSLS 10) - Thoughts and prayers are being sent from across Southwest Virginia to the owners of Angelo's Restaurant in Vinton.
Customers traveled from near and far for the authentic Mexican cuisine. The owners, Elvia and Angel Lineras, were involved in a single-car crash on Saturday at South Pollard and Jefferson Street. Elvia died at the scene and Angel remains in the hospital.
Candles, letters and other expressions of sympathy sit outside of the restaurant. Customers said the small restaurant was run by a couple with big hearts.
"They gave off that grandma and grandpa, mom and pop, take care of you if you needed help type feel' said Dayoni Stump.
She runs a boutique located a few doors down from the restaurant and also lives near the Lineras' home.
"I had actually seen their car being taken off and it hit hard," she said.
The Lineras been married for more than 50 years and had become a staple in the close-knit community.
"I've heard of people who drove from Salem and other places just to get a bite of their food," said Stump. "That place is always packed.'
For now, the doors are closed as Angel recovers. Many hope to see the business back open again. Meanwhile, customers continue to send prayers.
"My family will keep their family in prayers," said Stump.
So far, no word on funeral arrangements for Elvia Lineras.
