Lynchburg man charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle

LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - A man has been charged after an incident where shots were fired at three people in Lynchburg.

Police say it happened on January 18 at about 9:05 p.m., when officers were dispatched to the intersection of 15th Street and Fillmore Street to investigate a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived in the area they saw broken glass in the roadway near the intersection. Officers found three victims who reported they were sitting inside of a parked vehicle near the intersection of 15th Street and Fillmore Street when a group of men approached their vehicle.

Two of the men pulled out handguns and began firing several shots at the vehicle. According to police, no one was injured as a result of this incident.

As a result of the investigation, 25-year-old Devon Rashard Christian McCoy, of Lynchburg, was identified as one of the suspects involved.

McCoy was arrested on Tuesday and charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle, three counts of attempted malicious wounding, and reckless handling of a firearm.

This investigation is ongoing.
