ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The search is on for a new Roanoke City Manager. On Tuesday, Chris Morrill announced he is leaving the Star City for a job in Chicago.

Morrill plans to become the Executive Director of the Government Finance Officers Association.

Councilman Dave Trinkle is heading a committee tasked with finding Morrill's replacement. Trinkle said the position could take months to fill, but they plan to hire an interim city manager.

"We are going to find the right candidate to continue the energy and momentum that we have seen over the last seven years or so with Chris Morrill," said Trinkle.

Trinkle says some of the qualities they may consider include a candidate's ability to collaborate with regional partners, an understanding of the importance of quality life and the key role education has to the city's economy.

Morrill's last day is April 15.
