ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The Roanoke Harry Potter Festival announced on Thursday that proceeds from this year's event will go to Star City Reads.

Star City Reads is focused on improving children's kindergarten readiness, school attendance, summer learning, and grade-level reading outcomes, with a focus on third-grade reading proficiency.

Since the beginning of its campaign, Star City Reads has given over 35,000 free books to children in the city of Roanoke.

The Harry Potter Festival will also be providing locations across downtown Roanoke for festival goers and the general public to donate gently used children's books to Star City Reads. These locations will be in the festival area on Salem Avenue, Community High School and the main library on Jefferson Street.

The festival is still actively recruiting volunteers, as organizers say more than 250 volunteers will be needed for this event. Click here if you're interested in volunteering.

The Roanoke Harry Potter Festival will be Saturday, May 13 from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
