Carilion Music Therapy expands through partnership with Radford University

ROANOKE (WSLS) - A music therapy program at Carilion Roanoke Memorial hospital is expanding.

The program is currently used for hospice patients. The hospital is partnering with Radford University students to help kids battling different illnesses.

Music therapy is a fairly new program at the hospital. Music therapist, Jesse St. Jean of the Roanoke Memorial Hospital describes the treatment as, "Using live music as a cue for the body to help decrease pain levels, and manage anxiety or agitation."

Radford University music students are working to become future music therapists while benefiting patients at the children's hospital at the same time.
