ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine is joining activists and fellow Democrats in decrying the recent arrests of immigrants outside a church shelter in Virginia.

Democratic officials held a news conference Thursday at the Rising Hope Mission Church outside of Alexandria. They say the arrest of two immigrants by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents violates a policy barring immigration officials from targeting people at churches, hospitals and schools. They also dispute ICE officials' account that only two were arrested, citing witness accounts that six were taken away.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly says ICE continues to respect that policy regarding sensitive locations, but the former vice presidential nominee and others say the arrests prove otherwise.
