ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A strike for a good cause. Katie's Place for persons with special needs celebrates its annual bowl-a-thon this afternoon.
The event raises money for Katie's Place, a center that provides adults with unique learning challenges the chance to learn the activities of daily living.
Organizers say the goal is to help them live on their own one day.
Vanessa Romas of Katie's Place said, "We are able to teach our participants different life skills. we teach them how to cook, how to clean, how to do their own laundry, how to manage their own household. we also volunteer in the community to be able to teach them a sense of working and being able to learn different skills out in the workforce."
This is is the second year for the event.
