Poplar Forest to host talk on "fake news"

BEDFORD COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest will host a discussion on "fake news" as part of the "Mr. Jefferson's Salon" talk series.

The series is designed in the fashion of salons that Jefferson attended in Paris, where issues of the day were discussed.

The March 30 event will include a local newspaper editor and the president of the Newseum. It will be moderated by a Jefferson historian.

"We're going to really explore what fake news is.  Is fake news brand-new for us today or perhaps was it around in Jefferson's time?  I don't think it's a spoiler but it was around in Jefferson's time," said Wayne Gannaway with Poplar Forest.

They'll discuss the first amendment and the role of a free press and government.

The event is limited to 40 attendees.  Reservations can be made by calling 434-534-8120.
