Police say 19-year-old Sierra Lane, of Gretna, was traveling north on Route 609 when she ran off the right side of the road. She overcorrected, which caused the vehicle to slide across Route 609, through the intersection with Route 766, and continue off the side of Route 766.

The car then hit an embankment and the impact caused the vehicle to vault over a fence and land upside down in a field on the other side of the fence.

Police say Lane was ejected from the car and was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where she died later that day.

The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
