'Hacksaw Ridge' Medal of Honor recipient to receive marker in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - The Lynchburg City Council has given the Lynchburg Museum the green light to place a marker honoring one of its own at Monument Terrace.

The marker will honor Medal of Honor recipient Desmond Doss whose story is told in the movie "Hacksaw Ridge."

Doss is credited with saving 75 soldiers during world war two without ever carrying a weapon.

Museum director Doug Harvey said he hopes Desmond Doss Jr., who lives in Washington state,  will be able to attend the unveiling.
