Lockdown on five Bedford County schools lifted

UPDATE (1:36 p.m.) - The Bedford County Sheriff's Office says that Tuesday morning's lockdowns were a precaution following the body being found.


UPDATE (11:34 a.m.): The lockdown on the schools has been lifted according to Bedford County administrators.


BEDFORD COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Bedford County Public Schools has released information that five schools have been placed on lockdown Tuesday morning.

The schools on lockdown are Forest Elementary, Thomas Jefferson Elementary, Otter River Elementary, Forest Middle School and Jefferson Forest High.

Officials say the lockdown is due to an active investigation taking place in the Forest area.

The schools are under a perimeter lockdown and the doors are being guarded.
