Dinwiddie Co. (WSLS 10) - Police are investigating an incident at Virginia Motorsports park.
Police say at around 8:00 p.m. Saturday night they received multiple reports of shots fired in multiple locations at the park.
In a news conference just before 11:30, Major William Knott with the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's office says the scene was chaotic. Two people were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It is unclear whether those injuries were gunshot wounds. Several others received minor scrapes and bruises from trying to escape. No law enforcement was injured.
Major Knott also says two vehicles were hit by the gunfire, and there were other incidents outside the park after the initial shots fired.
One person was hit by a vehicle near Virginia Motorsports Park; their condition is not known at this time. Virginia State Police is handling that investigation.
The Sheriff's office is still looking for suspects. Major Knott says they are still canvasing the area looking for any people or other vehicles hit.
According to the park's Facebook page, there was a "Big 5 State Bike Rally" on Saturday that was expected to draw nearly 10,000 people to the area. the sheriff's office says they estimate anywhere from 10,000 to 12,000 people were at the concert. "With the number of people that were there, and the number of gunshots that I understand that were fired, we're extremely lucky" Says Major Knott.
The event, which was scheduled through 11 p.m., included a concert Saturday night with Lil Boosie. Six deputies were working at the concert. The Sheriff's Office says the park has it's own security and the extra deputies were there to provide support.
