One hospitalized after fire at Blacksburg business

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - Fire crews are responding to a fire at Auto Master Tire and Service Center in Blacksburg.

The Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue has taken one person to the hospital.

Crews responded to a reported explosion of an air compressor in the back the service center, according to Blacksburg Fire Chief Bobby Carner.

Carner said that the employee who discovered the fire is the person who was taken to the hospital.

The air compressor was surrounded by tires, which quickly caught fire. That fire spread throughout the rest of the building and into a storage area with wooden floors, according to Carner.

The storage area is where crews are now working because there is still a hot spot in the building that they're trying to extinguish.

As of 7:20 p.m., S. Main Street was closed in both directions near the business.

Both Blacksburg and Christiansburg fire crews responded to the scene.
