Five people in Amherst County charged with having meth

The Amherst County Sheriff's Office arrests in a 24-hour period

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. – The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office has made several arrests in a 24-hour span related to people having meth.

On Tuesday, deputies working traffic enforcement stopped Anthony Charles Simpson, 28, of Gladstone, Virginia, and arrested him on several charges, including, probation violations, driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance.

In addition, his passenger, Hope Marlene Jessup, 23, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

On Wednesday, at about 12:30 a.m. deputies executing a search warrant for narcotics activity at 582 River Road in Madison Heights and made the following arrests:

  • Donald Kenneth Bray Jr., 40, Madison Heights
  • Julie Argenbright Burgess, 41, Madison Heights
  • Courtney Grace Baldock, 21, Madison Heights

According to the sheriff's office, all were charged with possession of a controlled substance.

In addition, investigators were able to determine this residence had been serving as a trap house (a place where methamphetamine was being consumed, stored, and distributed), and at least an ounce of methamphetamine had been sold from the residence in the previous 24 hours.

Additional charges may be pending as this investigation continues.

All of the individuals were arrested without incident and transported to the Amherst Adult Detention Center.
