Pedestrian dies after crash in Washington County

Bristol man pronounced dead at the scene

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. – A 23-year-old man died on Tuesday night after being hit by a truck, according to state police.

Christopher Belcher, of Bristol, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

About 9:20 p.m., state police responded to a report of pedestrian fatality in the Meadowview area of Washington County.

A 1992 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck was passing a slow-moving vehicle in a legal passing zone on Route 11, near Hawthorne Drive,  when it hit Belcher, who was walking north in the southbound lanes, according to state police.

No charges are pending against the 17-year-old boy who was driving the truck.

Police say it’s unclear at this time whether Belcher was in the roadway at the time of the crash.

The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to take measurements and investigate.  

The investigation is ongoing.
