Driver in Halifax County fatal DUI to be sentenced on more charges

Melissa Rhodes will be sentenced on three additional charges

HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – The Halifax County woman awaiting sentencing for a drunk driving crash that killed her fiance's 9-year-old son pleaded no contest to more charges.

Melissa Rhodes entered a no-contest plea Friday to DWI and two license violations.

She is scheduled to be sentenced June 8.

In March, she pleaded guilty to reckless DUI manslaughter and child abuse causing serious injury.

She also entered an Alford plea for her homicide charge.

Toxicology reports found her blood alcohol level was .225 at the time of the crash in August 2016.
