Man charged with murder after fatal shooting in Roanoke

ROANOKE – Roanoke Police say the man suspected of killing a man in an armed robbery attempt has turned himself in.

Police say Lacquaine Jamal Myers, 29 of Roanoke turned himself in Thursday morning.

He’s charged with murder following the shooting death of 37-year-old Donye Smith.

Smith was shot and then robbed in the 1100 block of Loudon Avenue NW on Sunday.

He was taken to the hospital where he later died. 

Police say they cannot confirm if Smith or his two passengers were targeted. 

Smith's passengers were not injured.
