Man last seen with Brittany Freeny charged with arson

Camper may face additional charges

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the murder of a Roanoke woman.

The Sheriff’s Office has charged the man last seen with 30-year-old Brittany Freeny with arson.

Lamarre Maurice Camper, 49, was arrested for arson for allegedly setting fire to the vehicle in which he and Freeny were last seen.

Since the investigation is ongoing, and after consulting with the commonwealth's attorney, the Sheriff's Office has decided to not release any additional information relating to potential charges.

"We believe that the investigation is moving along very well and we certainly believe that further charges will be placed in the very near future," said Sheriff Bill Overton.

The Sheriff's Office says that Freeny's body was found by utility workers in a wooded area just off of Murray Knob Road in the Boones Mill area on May 3. This, after she was reported missing by her family the day before.

Anyone with information related to Freeny's homicide is encouraged to contact the Franklin County Sheriff's Office at 540-352-5174.
