Two women arrested, charged with running illegal gambling operation in Carroll County

Women are from North Carolina

HILLSVILLE, Va. – Two North Carolina women have been arrested and face charges connected with running an illegal gambling operation in Hillsville.

Hillsville police arrested the women after a weeklong undercover investigation.

Crystal Gayle Neeley, of Statesville, North Carolina, is charged with one felony count of conducting an illegal gambling operation, along with four misdemeanor charges, including aiding and abetting in the operation of an illegal gambling operation, allowing illegal gambling to be conducted without notifying law enforcement, illegally possessing gambling devices and carrying a concealed weapon.

She was also charged locally with unlawfully operating a gambling room.

Candy Campbell, also from Statesville, faces the same charges as Neely, except for the concealed weapon charge.

Both arrests were made at 231 Farmers Market Road, Suite 6, in Hillsville, Virginia. 

Cash and illegal devices, plus anything used to assist in the gambling, were confiscated.

The investigation is continuing and police expect more charges to be filed.
