What's News Today: May 17, 2017

Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

United Way of Central Virginia holds the 25th Day of Caring.  More than 800 volunteers will give back to more than 35 non-profit agencies.  After working, there is a lunch, entertainment and prizes.

The Bedford Chamber of Commerce holds a job fair today.  Around 50 companies will attend, talking with job seekers and accepting resumes.  Several workshops will also take place, including resume building, career success and using Linked In.  The fair runs from 11 a.m. To 4 p.m. At the Bedford campus of Central Virginia Community College.

Cyclists will honor those who have been hurt or killed while cycling.  The 10th annual Ride of Silence kicks off this evening in Radford.  It's part of a worldwide movement to promote bike safety.  Staging for the event begins at 6:30 p.m. With the ride beginning at 7 p.m.

An active shooter training exercise takes place this morning in Lynchburg.  The city's Human Services Department and Lynchburg Police will take part in the exercise.  The Human Service Building will be closed during the exercise.

A ribbon cutting takes place today at the Christiansburg Kroger.  The $12 million, 82,000 square foot expansion will allow the store to now offer online ordering.

We will learn more today about the Community Solution Center that is coming to Roanoke.  Feeding America Southwest Virginia will provide an update on the purchase of the former Ms. Choc's Lounge property on Melrose Avenue and the grant funding.
