Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

Rooster Walk 9 gets underway in Martinsville today.  More than three dozen bands will take to the stage during this four day music festival.  The family-friendly events also has kids' activities, food, craft beer and art.  The festival runs through Sunday with single day tickets starting at $35.

The funeral takes place today for the Botetourt County firefighter who died while responding to an accident.  The funeral for Roger Johns begins at 2 p.m. at James River High School gymnasium.  Johns was serving as a ground guide when a fire department vehicle back into him.  The department was responding to an accident on Route 220 at the time.  Governor Terry McAuliffe has ordered the Virginia flag to be flown at half-staff on all state buildings and grounds today in memory of Johns.

Roanoke Mayor Sherman Lea has called a special meeting of Roanoke City Council tonight.  The board will conduct a "neighborhood Solidarity Walk" to promote neighborhood safety, to promote safety in the community.  The walk begins at the intersection of 5th Street and Moorman Road. 

An economic development announcement takes place today in Salem.  Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, Basil Gooden, will make the presentation this afternoon.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issues its forecast today for the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season.  Forecasters will also talk about improvements at the National Hurricane Center as well as ways people can prepare.  Hurricane season begins on June 1st.

More than 400 students will receive their degrees today at Washington and Lee University.  Two graduates have received Fulbright grants for postraduate international work, two have received scholarships and one is a Rhodes Scholar.  Twenty-two retiring members of the faculty and staff will also be recognized. 

The Roanoke Rescue Mission holds and open house today for its two new Day Resource Centers.  The centers have case management offices, computers for job and housing searches, charging stations and storage lockers. 

The annual Run for the Wall moves through southwest Virginia today.  This is the 29th year of the event, which honors those killed in action and to show support for military personnel around the world.  The motorcycle riders will leave Wytheville this morning, traveling up Interstate 81 to U.S. 460.  They will make a stop at Montvale Elementary School and the National D-Day Memorial before stopping for the day in Lynchburg.
