Man arrested for murder in Nelson Co.

NELSON COUNTY – A man was shot and killed Saturday morning just before 5 a.m. in Nelson County. According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, it happened in the 1700 block of Grandmas Hill Road. The victim has been identified as James Lee Spencer, of Lovingston.


According to a release, the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 5 a.m. Saturday morning asking for assistance involving a gunshot wound. When they arrived they found the man unresponsive. Nelson County deputies arrived shortly after. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say 32-year-old Jacob Paul Lincoln of Amherst was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Lincoln is being held at the Albermarle Regional Jail without bond. Deputies say he is the only alleged offender in the homicide.

The incident is currently under investigation involving assisting agencies, Virginia State Police and the Amherst County Sheriff's Office.
