Two men arrested after shots fired in downtown Roanoke

Police say gunfire occurred early Saturday morning on Campbell Avenue

ROANOKE, Va – Two men in Roanoke are in jail, accused of firing shots on Campbell Avenue, police said.

Roanoke police arrested Ronald Wayne Coles Jr., 25,  and Shawn Dionete Coles, 23, on suspicion of reckless handling of a firearm and shooting a gun within city limits.

Roanoke police say the shooting happened around 2 a.m. in the 100 block of Campbell Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, witnesses pointed police to a black Mercedes they said appeared to be trying to leave the area.

Officers stopped the vehicle from exiting the parking lot where the incident occurred.

Officers recovered two firearms from the Mercedes.

No injuries have been reported.
