Radford marks Memorial Day with Field of Crosses

Bisset Park ceremony honors those from Radford who gave it all for our freedom

RADFORD, Va – Many marked Memorial Day at the largest Memorial Day service in the New River Valley at Radford’s 19th annual ceremony.

In front of the gazebo in Bisset Park a Field of Crosses honors those from Radford who gave it all for our freedom.

One Christiansburg man said he chooses to attend this ceremony because it's one of the better ones around, as he described it.

“It's important to remember their sacrifice and remember how important freedom is,” said Dennis Kitts. “It is not free. We have to constantly fight for that freedom and, as a matter fact, most of the history of our country has been spent fighting for that right and that God-given right of freedom.”

“The ones that offered to lay their life down for this country are here to remember the ones that did lay their life down,” said Gary Harris, commander of the Radford VFW Post 776.

Harris said putting on this ceremony year after year is an all-volunteer effort.
