Rescue Mission looking for child's turkey drawing for Drumstick Dash T-shirt

Content takes place this weekend

ROANOKE, Va. – The Rescue Mission needs a design for its 2017 Drumstick Dash T-shirt.

Each year, the Mission selects a turkey drawn by a child to be on the shirt, which is then given to more than 13,000 walkers and runners participating in the Thanksgiving Day 5K in Downtown Roanoke.

The Mission has partnered with the Taubman Museum of Art again this year for the drawing contest.

“Our favorite meeting every year is the one that we review all the entries,” says Rescue Mission Chief Development Officer Tracy Altizer. “It’s fun seeing the kids’ drawings, so we’re looking forward to lots more colorful and creative turkeys this year. And what better place than the Taubman’s beautiful atrium to inspire creativity?”

The Rescue Mission will display all contest entries throughout the month of August at 2nd Helpings Gallery.

The public is invited to attend a reception on Saturday, Aug. 19 and cast a vote for a winner from among the top 10 finalists. The winner will be announced at the end of the reception.

The drawing contest takes place inside the Taubman Atrium during the Sidewalk Art Show on Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 4 from noon to 5 p.m.
