Danville police officer shot at Thursday morning

Fourth time in several months an officer has been shot at

DANVILLE – Danville police are investigating after shots are fired toward an officer.

Police Chief Phillip Broadfoot said shots were fired in the direction of an officer conducting a traffic stop around 2 a.m. Thursday.

The shooting happened at the intersection of Bradley Road and North Main Street.

Neither the officer nor the people who were stopped were hurt.

Broadfoot said this is the fourth such incident in the past four to five months.

He believes the shootings may be connected to a gang calling itself the Danville Police Department Killers.

"It's certainly probably related to that," said Broadfoot. "That was the first incident, and the publicity surrounding that has probably sparked the others. We don't know."

No officers have been hit in any of the incidents.
