Woman killed during Bedford County crash
Crash happened about 5 miles west of Lynchburg Friday
BEDFORD COUNTY – Virginia State Police released the name of the woman killed in a three-vehicle crash that happened Friday afternoon in Bedford County.
Virginia State Police Spokesperson Sgt. Rick Gartletts said Elinor Sperburg Wilson, 80, of Bedford, was wearing her seat belt and died at the scene of the crash.
The three-vehicle crash happened at 3:35 p.m. when a 2002 Buick Le Saber going east on Route 221 crossed the center line, sideswiped a 2012 GMC Acadia, and then hit a 2007 GMC Envoy head-on..
The crash happened in the vicinity of Gladden Circle, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
There were multiple injuries from the crash.
Traffic was diverted onto Route 646 and then back onto Route 221.
Virginia State Police Reconstruction Team was called to assist with the investigation.
