Mixed martial arts fighter Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver, 35, also known as War Machine, was sentenced Monday to 36 years to life for kidnapping, beating and sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend and attacking her male friend in Las Vegas in 2014, according to The Associated Press, CBS News and other news outlets.
Koppenhaver was sentenced on 29 felony and misdemeanor charges in the attacks on Christy Mack and Corey Thomas. Koppenhaver will be 71 before he's eligible for parole, the AP reports.

His lawyer, Jay Leiderman, said Koppenhaver suffered brain injuries from his fighting career and his emotions were inflamed from steroids and non-prescription stimulant and antidepressant drugs, the AP reports.
Thomas testified he suffered a broken nose, dislocated shoulder, scrapes, bruises and bite marks. Mack whose legal name is Christine Mackinday, testified that she sustained a broken nose, missing teeth, fractured eye socket, leg injuries and a lacerated liver.
Koppenhaver faced 34 charges. A jury remained deadlocked on two attempted murder charges and acquitted Koppenhaver of burglary with a deadly weapon, sexually motivated coercion and battery with intent to commit sexual assault, CBS reports.
Leiderman said Koppenhaver tried to hang himself in jail in January, but that he has turned to religion and wants to become a role model behind bars, according to The Associated Press.
