Martinsville-Henry County SPCA, YMCA team up to help get dogs adopted

SPCA held dog walk at YMCA Friday

MARTINSVILLE – The Martinsville YMCA and the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA are teaming up to help get dogs adopted.

Friday morning, the SPCA held a dog walk at the Y.

People could come by and take a dog for a walk.

Anyone who adopts one of the dogs from the SPCA can have their YMCA membership signup fee waived.

The SPCA says these events are great exposure.

"We get a lot more foot traffic after we do an event like this. People come in and ask, 'Hey, where was that blue speckled dog? What was that? I saw this dog you were walking down the street,'" said SPCA assistant director Deanna McArthur. "Even if that dog's already adopted, it still brings them in."

McArthur estimated the SPCA had around 40 dogs up for adoption as of Friday.
