Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

Sentencing takes place today for the man who plead guilty to murder in connection to a police chase in Rockbridge County.  According to online court records, 24 year-old Tyquanne McCargo plead guilty to murder, eluding police and reckless driving after a December 2016 incident in which state police say McCargo was stopped for speeding on Interstate 81.  During the stop, the officer discovered he was wanted for a felony.  McCargo then sped away.  During the chase, McCargo crossed the centerline and hit another car.  The driver of the other car, 55 year-old Ricky Deacon, died at the scene.

Martinsville City Council looks to fill two open School Board positions.  Council will need to fill two positions.  The three year terms will begin on July 1st.  The two people whose terms are expiring are both eligible for re-appointment.

Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown holds an Awards and Recognition Ceremony today.  Deputies will be recognized this afternoon for going above and beyond the call of duty and promotion announcements will be made.

Walmart holds a ribbon cutting today on a new Training Academy.  Supervisors will receive hands-on and classroom training.  At the grand opening of the facility, several non-profits and Roanoke City and County School will receive donations.

We will get to meet Pittsylvania County's newest canine today.  Marvel, a yellow labrador retriever, and his handler have gone through a five week training program to learn to sniff out the causes of fires. 

The Pulaski County School Board is expected to approve an option to purchase land for the new Pulaski County Middle School.  The proposed school would replace the current facilities in the county.  The 160,000 square foot building would hold about 1,000 students and cost around $45 million to build.
