Danville Children's Festival's move to summer proves popular
Some like it separated from River District Festival
DANVILLE – Kids in Southside are embracing a new summertime opportunity.
Danville Parks and Recreation held its annual Children's Festival Saturday.
This is the first time the festival has been held in the summer.
Normally, it coincides with the city's annual River District Festival in the fall.
A variety of fun activities were available at the city's Carrington Pavilion, including a bounce house, face painting and mini golf.
"This is neat to see it during the summer because I know they've tried to do it along with the River District Festival in the fall and it seems like it gets overshadowed by a lot of the other events," said Leigh Allen, who brought her kids to the festival.
"I'm looking forward to getting wet and having the most fun I've ever had in my life," 9-year-old Kenyon Flowers said.
Free tubing rides down the Dan River were planned as part of the festival, but because of all of the rain the river was up too high so the tubing was canceled.
